my work is intuitive and natural. the surface of wood soda-fired work directly reflects the atmospheric firing process. the flames speak for themselves as they decorate each vessel with beautiful, unpredictable nuances. i think of my work as a way to celebrate the unsung heroes of nature's landscapes. by carefully selecting dark iron-rich clay bodies and through the application of clay slips and shino glazes, the fired results are reminiscent of outcrops, escarpments, and road cuts.
